FREMONT, Neb. – The no. 7 William Woods University women's tennis team defeated Midland University Friday afternoon with a 7-0 win on the road.
The Owls took the doubles point, winning the no. 1, no. 2, and no. 3 doubles matches.
In no. 1 doubles,
Zlata Shuraeva and
Ana Zavala defeated Grace Felder and Lexie Glosser, 6-0.
Hannah Meyer and
Mireia Jordan won their no. 2 doubles match 6-3 against Madison Kersigo and Elyse Splichal. Marta Larraz and
Rukshika Wijesooriya took a victory over Keyana Hastings and Sophie Mollring 6-3 in no. 3 doubles.
In no. 1 singles, Shuraeva defeated Felder 6-0, 6-0. Zavala earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Kersigo in no. 2 singles. Competing in no. 3 singles, Larraz won 2-6, 6-2, 7-6(6). In no. 4 singles, Wijesooriya won her match against Glosser, 6-0, 6-0. M. Jordan won her no. 5 match against Hastings, 6-2, 6-0, and
Ariadna Jordan took a victory over Macee Thompson 6-0, 6-0 in no. 6 singles.
Shuraeva and Zavala did not lose a single game during Friday's matches.
The Owls (2-0) return to action Sunday, February 28, to face RV Marian University in Springfield, Ill. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
