Springfield, Il. – The No. 7 William Woods University women's tennis defeated RV Marian University 6-1 Sunday afternoon on the road. The Owls are now 3-0 on the season.
The Owls were not able to take the doubles point, winning only the no. 1 match.
Competing in the no. 1 doubles,
Zlata Shuraeva and
Ana Zavala won their match against Teodora Simmons and Laura Kuebler, 6-3. In no. 2 doubles,
Hannah Meyer and
Rukshika Wijesooriya fell to Betija Dusele and Katharina Bopst, 7-6 (5).
Mireia Jordan and Marta Calvo were defeated by Liza Lewis and Payton Haygood, 7-6 (1), in no. 3 doubles.
With an 0-1 deficit after doubles play, the Owls went on to sweep singles play.
In no. 1 singles, Shuraeva defeated Dusele 6-4, 4-1. Zavala took a victory over Bopst in no. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-2. Competing in no. 3 singles, Calvo won her match over Simion, 7-6(2), 6-4. In no. 4 singles, Wijesooriya earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Kuebler. Jordan defeated Alexa Elpers 6-2, 6-3, in no. 5 singles.
Ariadna Jordan won her match over Lewis, 6-4, 6-4, in no. 6 singles.
The No. 7 Owls return to action Friday, Mar. 5, against Bethel College in their home-opener at 1 p.m.
