Owls Struggle to Recover From First Quarter Deficit, Fall to RV Lyon

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods women's basketball team was unable to recover from their first quarter deficit to RV Lyon Saturday afternoon, ending with a 60-48 loss. The Owls drop to 4-13 on the season with a 1-6 conference mark.
 
The Owls next travel to Hannibal-LaGrange University on Thursday, Jan. 20, for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.

14 – Natalie Thomas led the Owls with 14 points after going a perfect 5-5 from the foul line.
10 – Katie Keilholz added 10 points to the board.
8 – Kasey Hazell pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
7 – Sydney Booker pulled down seven rebounds.
 
Game Highlights
The Owls took their one and only lead over Lyon with Sydney Booker's free throw just over a minute into the game, 3-2. A jumper from Kasey Hazell evened the score, but Lyon pushed out a five-point lead with 6:37 on the clock, 10-5. A three from Katie Keilholz brought the Owls within two with 4:50 on the clock, but Lyon pushed a 13-2 run to close out the quarter with a 13-point lead over the Owls, 25-12.
 
Lyon extended their lead to 19 halfway through the second quarter, but three good free throws from Natalie Thomas followed by a three from her brought the Owls within 13 with 3:10 on the clock. Booker finished out the Owls' 8-0 run with two good free throws to cut the game to 11 with 1:23 to play, 37-26. Lyon scored the final point of the half, sending the game into halftime with the Owls trailing 38-26.
 
Thomas scored first in the second half, cutting the game to 10 two minutes in, 38-28. Lyon extended the game to 17 points with 1:42 on the clock. Thomas scored the final points of the quarter to cut the game to 15 heading into the final 10 minutes of play, 51-36.
 
Keilholz dropped a three to start the fourth quarter, and Thomas followed with a layup to bring the game back to 10 points just a minute in, 51-41. A three from Jheda Kennedy kept the Owls within 10 with 5:35 to play. Lyon scored the final points of the game, ending with a 12-point loss for the Owls, 60-48.
