FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's basketball topped William Penn University in Thursday evening's down-to-the-wire game, 54-51.
Sydney Booker recorded her first double-double of the season in the Owls' first win.

The Owls open conference play on the road with a 5:30 p.m. tip-off at Missouri Baptist University on Thursday, Nov. 17.

Sydney Booker put up 16 points as she went 7-for-11 from the field for a double-double. Half of her points came in the fourth quarter.

Sydney Booker pulled down 10 boards with eight coming from the defensive end.
Natalie Thomas put up 10 points with eight coming in the third quarter.

A three from
Katie Keilholz put the Owls up by four, and a jumper from
Macie Edwards gave the Owls a six-point lead with four minutes remaining in the first quarter, 9-3. WPU broke their almost six-minute silence with a jumper, and the two teams ended the quarter with the Owls ahead 11-7.
A 4-0 run to start the second quarter put the Owls up by eight less than a minute in, 15-7. WPU responded with a 6-0 run to cut the game to two with 2:29 on the clock, 17-15. A WPU three cut the game to one, but
Ruthie Brown scored the final points of the half to give the Owls' a three-point lead heading into halftime, 21-18.
A 9-2 Owls' run opened up the second half, giving the team their first double-digit lead, 30-20. WPU strung together an 8-0 run over a two-minute period to cut the Owls' lead to two with 2:38 to play, 33-31. The Owls held a three-point lead heading into the final 10 minutes, 36-33.
WPU evened the score twice early in the fourth and took a one-point lead three minutes in on a three-point play, 43-42. A three from Keilholz put the Owls back ahead, but WPU scored the next five to take back the lead. Another three from Keilholz once again put the Owls up with 3:38 to play. WPU evened the score, but
Sydney Booker put the Owls up by two on the next play with a down-low jumper, 52-50. Booker scored the final points of the game with another down-low jumper with 1:47 on the clock, 54-51. A block from
Natalie Thomas and a steal from
Mariah Prince were key to keeping WPU from evening the score, ending the game with a 54-51 win.
