Box Score 2 AUSTIN, Texas. – The William Woods University softball team opened their season against Huston-Tillotson University this Thursday afternoon. The Owls won the first game, 1-0, and dropped the second one, 13-3. The Owls are 1-1 on the season.
The Owls get back on the field tomorrow on Friday, Feb. 18 with a doubleheader at the Our Lady of the Lake University. First pitch is set to 1 p.m.
"We had a great first game win. Sarah pitched extremely well, throwing a shutout is hard to do and she was about to do it under pressure in the late innings," said William Woods head coach
Tracy Gastineau, "it was a great start to her college career in the circle."
"Our defense was a little shaky in game two and that combined with some hits proved to be too much for us. I am hoping that tomorrow we have more consistent and quality at-bats. But all in all, it is great to be outside on dirt and hoping to build on today's successes and failures for our games tomorrow and Saturday."
Game One
The Owls won 1-0 in seven innings.
- Arianna Donovan was 1 for 3. She scored the only run of the game.
- Katie Gaus hit the ball to third base, who had the throwing error that scored Donovan.
Sarah Randermann (1-0) started the on the mound and was credited with the win. She pitched seven innings and struck out six while allowing only three hits and no runs.
Game Two
The Owls lost 13-3 in five innings.
Jessica Keilholz (0-1) took the loss on the mound. She struck out two and allowed 10 earned runs.
