Owls Use Strong Fourth Quarter to Top Cottey

FULTON, Mo. –  The William Woods University women's basketball team used a strong fourth quarter performance powered by Jersee Wren to top Cottey College Tuesday evening. The Owls improve to 5-10 and 3-5 in conference play with the 54-44 win.

The Owls continue their four-game home stretch on Thursday, Jan. 12, with a 5:30 p.m. tip-off versus Williams Baptist University.

16 – The Owls outscored Cottey 16-7 in the final quarter to grab the win.
15 – Jersee Wren led the floor with 15 points, having 12 of them come in the fourth quarter.
12 – Natalie Thomas put up 12 points with half coming from the foul line.
10 – Katie Keilholz scored 10 points (4-8 FG).
6 – Sydney Booker pulled down a team-high six rebounds.

Cottey scored first and held the lead throughout the first quarter. A three from Jersee Wren brought the Owls within one with 3:20 to play, but Cottey scored five before the end of the first quarter, 12-7.
 
A 7-0 Owls' run late in the second quarter cut the game to three (24-21) after Cottey extended their lead to nine earlier. Cottey scored the final points of the half to send the teams into halftime with Cottey up 26-21.
 
The Owls managed to pull their first lead of the game just over four minutes into the second half, 31-30. The lead bounced around, but a three-point play from Natalie Thomas sent the Owls into the final 10 minutes with a one-point lead, 38-37.
 
Wren scored 12 of the Owls' 16 points in the fourth quarter. The game stayed within one possession while the lead bounced back-and-forth throughout the first seven minutes of the quarter, but a layup from Katie Keilholz with 3:19 on the clock kick-started an Owls' 10-0 run to close out the game with a 54-44 win.
