WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. – The William Woods University women's basketball team struggled in the third quarter Thursday evening, leading to their loss at Williams Baptist University. The 80-66 loss brings the Owls to 8-18 on the season with a 6-13 conference mark.

The Owls finish out their regular season at Lyon College Saturday, Feb. 19. The two teams tip-off at 1 p.m. The Owls have clinched a spot in the American Midwest Conference Championship, but their seeding is up in the air until after Saturday.

The Owls will be the seven seed if:
- Woods wins on Saturday and Cottey loses on Saturday (earns seven-seed outright).
- Woods wins on Saturday and Cottey wins on Saturday (earns seven-seed in tiebreaker.
- Woods loses on Saturday and Cottey loses on Saturday (earns seven-seed in tiebreaker).
The Owls will be the eight seed if:
- Woods loses on Saturday and Cottey wins on Saturday.

The Owls jumped out to a 6-0 lead to start the game with four points from
Mariah Prince and two from
Sydney Booker. A 9-2 WBU run in just a minute-and-a-half put the lead in WBU's hands, but
Natalie Thomas put the Owls back up top with a layup. Back-to-back buckets from Thomas gave the Owls a five-point lead with just over two minutes to play, but WBU closed out the quarter with a 6-0 run to take a one-point lead, 22-21.
A jumper by
Jersee Wren followed by a steal from
Katie Keilholz and a fast break layup from
Ruthie Brown put the Owls up by three just over 30 seconds into the second quarter, 25-22. WBU took ahold of the lead once more, but a three from Thomas again gave the Owls the advantage, 28-27. WBU struck a 7-0 run to take a six-point lead halfway through, and a second 7-0 run gave WBU a nine-point lead with 2:40 left in the half, 41-32. The Owls went into halftime trailing by seven, 43-36.
Yet another 7-0 WBU run put the Owls down by 12 early in the second half. The Owls retaliated with a 7-0 run of their own with all seven points coming from Thomas, cutting the Owls' deficit to five halfway through, 50-45. WBU closed out the quarter with a 14-4 run. Thomas scored 12 of the Owls' 13 points in the third quarter.
The Owls ended the game with a 9-0 run, bringing the score to 80-66 at the buzzer.
