GULF SHORES, Ala. – The William Woods University softball team played back-to-back-to-back games on Sunday at the Gulf Coast Invitational. The Owls went 0-3 on the day with two close losses against Bethel University (Tenn.) and Xavier University (La.).
Bethel University (Tenn.) def. William Woods, 6-5
- The Owls scored one in the fourth and three in the fifth to tie up the game. They added one in the sixth to again even the score.
- Bethel won on an error in the bottom of the seventh.
- The Owls outhit Bethel 10-7.
- Crystal Ruden, Iliana Manzano, Jaden Swift and Ally Mahoney each had two hits.
- Pitching: Sarah Randermann (2-8) pitched the complete game and was credited with the loss.
Xavier University (La.) def. William Woods, 8-6
- The Owls scored two in the third to take the lead and added four more in the bottom of the fifth to even the score at 6-6.
- Xavier scored one in the second, five in the fifth and took the lead with two runs in the sixth.
- The Owls two runs in the third were scored on Taylor Bell's sac bunt to score Mariah Prince and a wild pitch to score Crystal Ruden.
- The Owls four runs in the fifth were scored on Iliana Manzano's two RBI double, Jaden Swift's RBI double and Arianna Donovan's RBI double.
- The Owls finished with eight hits.
- Crystal Ruden went 3-4 from the plate.
- Callie Zarcone and Jaden Swift each hit doubles.
- Pitching: Jessica Keilholz (1-7) pitched the complete game and was credited with the loss. She struck out three.
Morningside University (Iowa) def. William Woods, 10-0 (5 inn.)

The Owls face neighboring Westminster College for a doubleheader at their place on Friday, March 10, starting at 1 p.m.
