FULTON, Mo. - The William Woods Owls were led by Community graduate
Natalie Thomas' team-high 14 points as they won the first official game in their redesigned court Thursday at Anderson Arena.
"I thought we played really well as a team where you get struggled there a little bit in the start of the first half, but we picked it up, and we knew we had to take it to the rim," Thomas said after William Woods beat the Hannibal-LaGrange Trojans 55-44. "We defended, Mariah (Prince) and Jersee (Wren) and I at the guard position. We really locked down and tried to get those steals. ...So I thought we really locked down, and our bigs got it done in the paint."
"We finished around the rim when we needed it, and we were hitting shots, so we had to finish around the rim. So I thought we played we played well through that. Not that we played overly great, but we battled through that adversity and finished the game."
Thomas joined teammate Sydney Booker for quite the guard-post combo in the Owls' American Midwest Conference home-opening win against the Trojans.
Booker, who's a double-double threat most nights, got one Thursday with 12 points and 11 rebounds, and she tied Thomas for a game-high four steals and Tipton alumna Macie Edwards for a game-high two blocks.
