ROME, Ga. - No. 8 William Woods University men's tennis'
Zino Nahirniak (singles and doubles) and
Noah Burton (doubles) participated in the 2024 ITA Cup, held from Thursday to Sunday at Rome Tennis Center.
To advance to the ITA Cup, Nahirniak won the ITA Central-West Regionals singles championship, and he and his doubles partner Burton were winners in the Central-West Regionals doubles final.
Unseeded Nahirniak fell to No. 2 seed Shaheed Alam of Keiser University 6-2, 6-0 in Thursday's singles Round of 16. Following that, Nahirniak's singles run came to a close after he lost 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 to unseeded Ching Wah Wai of Holy Cross College, who played as an alternate for teammate Naithaolin Golmei, in the consolation quarterfinals Friday.
In doubles, unseeded Burton and Nahirniak dropped a 6-4, 1-6, [10-2] decision to unseeded Arizona Christian University's Lennert Lemahieu and Hugo Abril in the Round of 16 Thursday. On Friday, Burton and Nahirniak lost 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, [10-2] to unseeded Lucas Perez and Francisco Perez Esnaola of the University of Northwestern Ohio in the consolation quarterfinals. The Owls' doubles pair's tournament ended when they fell 6-3, 6-1 to Nereo Suarez and Manuel Arias of Xavier University of Louisiana in the consolation semifinals.
The ITA Cup marked the end of William Woods' fall season.
