William Woods University Athletics had a fantastic fall among its five programs competing in the American Midwest Conference, with the Owls topping the Lowell Pitzer men's standings, tied for second in the Presidents' Cup overall standings and third in the Valerie Beeson women's sports standings, announced the AMC Nov. 20.
"Since the start of the three-trophy format in the AMC, this is our most successful fall, and it's a testament to the commitment our fall programs made in setting the tone for the 2024-25 season," William Woods Vice President and Director of Athletics Steve Wilson said. "Incredibly proud of two conference championships (in men's soccer and women's cross country) and the way that every team battled until the end to ensure a top-half finish in every fall sport in the conference. I'm excited to see how winter and spring sports are able to build on this great start from our fall programs. These kinds of cumulative awards are benchmarks for positive leadership and a winning culture, the kind we're continuing to establish at The Woods."
To lead the Lowell Pitzer table, WWU scored 45 points in men's soccer - Owls went unbeaten en route to winning the AMC regular season title - and 30 in men's cross country for a total of 75. Missouri Baptist University was second with 65 (40 in men's soccer and 25 in men's cross country), and Columbia College was third with 60 (30 each in men's soccer and cross country).
It was a tight battle at the top of the Presidents' Cup standings, with the Spartans narrowly edging the Owls and Cougars. MBU had 192½ points (60 in volleyball, 40 in men's soccer, 35 each in women's soccer and women's cross country and 25 in men's cross country), and WWU (45 each in men's soccer and volleyball, 40 in women's cross country and 30 apiece in women's soccer and men's cross country) and CC (55 in volleyball, 40 in women's soccer, 35 in men's cross country and 30 each in men's soccer and women's cross country) each had 190.
The Valerie Beeson leaderboard saw a close call for first between the Spartans and Cougars, while the Owls maintained their continuity by joining their two AMC rivals in the top three. MBU was first with 130 points (60 in volleyball and 35 each in women's soccer and cross country), CC was second with 125 (55 in volleyball, 40 in women's soccer and 30 in women's cross country) and WWU was third with 115 (45 in volleyball, 40 in women's cross country and 30 in women's soccer).
With winter and spring sports still to be played, The Woods looks to solidify its Lowell Pitzer lead while it strives to climb the table in the Presidents' Cup and Valerie Beeson standings.
