Box Score 2 FULTON, Mo. - After recognizing the career contributions of three outstanding student-athletes on Senior Day, William Woods (15-21, 6-6 AMC) scored in eight of its nine half-innings at the plate as they swept Harris-Stowe State University (0-28, 0-12) 8-0 and 16-0 on Saturday afternoon. Sydney Wilbeck went 3-3 in game one, with fellow senior Arianna Donovan going 3-4 in game two for Woods.
After a leadoff walk drawn by Brooklynn Spillman, Wilbeck mashed a double down the left-field line - the first of her three game one hits - and moved to third on a single by Jessica Keilholz. Iliana Manzano posted a two-RBI double to right center, but aggressive baserunning caught her out at third and stalled WWU's offense at three runs in the bottom of the first.
Woods added three more runs in the bottom of the second, but was held to a single hit in the third.
Wilbeck led off the fourth inning with a picture-perfect bunt down the third-base line, with a single by Keilholz and a flyout to deep center by Manzano moving her into scoring position. Donovan bumped the Woods lead to 7-0 with a sac fly scoring Wilbeck, but the Owls couldn't capitalize on a passed ball and wild pitch that put Keilholz on third.
The Hornets mounted a brief rally in the top of the fifth, as Teahna Phillips drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a sac bunt by Remani Atuatasi. Brooke Lopez settled in and struck out Morgan Nettles, then shrugged off Phillips's steal of third as she fanned Laurann Brown, the eighth strikeout of the game for Lopez.
Woods needed precious little time to bring the game to an end, as Morgan Collins drew a one-out walk to set the table for a walk-off triple by Madison Leckrone.
Hailey Robinson went the distance in game two for Woods, striking out six without giving up a walk, scattering three hits across 5.0 innings of work as the Owls hit their stride offensively.
Woods scored one run in the first and three in the second before blowing the game open with a seven-run third inning. Brooke Talbot picked up one of the rarest feats available, cranking an RBI double to right field in a positionless at-bat, as she had entered earlier in the third as a pinch runner for Ally Mahoney. She wasn't able to come around and score, unfortunately, as Addie Rhea grounded out to short to end the inning.
The Owls added five more runs in the bottom of the fourth and held on for the run-rule win.
Woods continues the AMC portion of its schedule on Sunday, taking on UHSP in a 2 p.m. doubleheader at the Affton Athletic Association fields.
