Dominant Back-To-Back Sweeps Deliver AMC/Heart/SAC Title For Owls

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Squaring off against the rival Spartans for the third time this season, the dominance of no. 1 seed William Woods (17-5) was on full display in a 5-0 sweep of no. 3 seed Missouri Baptist (14-10) on Thursday. The win marks the third AMC/Heart/SAC NAIA Championship Qualifier title for Woods in the past four seasons.

After earning a bye to the semifinals as the top seed, Woods quickly dispatched no. 4 seed Texas Wesleyan on Wednesday, claiming the doubles point with wins at the one and three lines. Ben Grumley and Zinovii Nahirniak rolled over Pablo Olmedo and Gabriel Torres Arevalo 6-2, before Andres De Los Rios Kolejewska and Felix Diedrichs downed Austin Davis and Fabio Martin Abril 6-3.

Nahirniak kept it going for Woods with a quick 6-0, 6-2 win over Torres Arevalo and Vaclav Schneider put the Owls up 3-0 with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Olmedo.

In what became a theme for WWU, De Los Rios Kolejewska clinched the match win over the Rams with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Elliot Hoffman.

On Thursday, Woods posted wins at two and three doubles to claim the point - Schneider/Subert 6-1 over Nicolas Sanchez/Youssef Ihab Mokhles; De Los Rios Kolejewska/Diedrichs 6-3 over Archip Tokmakov/Timofey Tokmakov - and continued with quick wins at the three and five singles.

Nahirniak gave up just one set overall in his 6-0, 6-1 win over Mokhles. Subert finished off Timofey Tokmakov with a break point, winning 6-2, 6-2.

And just like Wednesday's semifinal, De Los Rios Kolejewska clinched the win for Woods at the six line, finding the back corner against Sanchez to take home the 6-3, 6-2 win. Grumley also picked up a point for the Owls at the two line, finishing off Dragan Omcikus 6-4, 6-1 just moments after the clinch.

The Owls return to the NAIA Men's Tennis National Championship for the seventh time in program history. Woods will travel to Mobile, Ala., for the May 14-18 tournament.
