COLUMBIA, Mo. - Despite a five-run third inning, William Woods (11-21, 2-6 AMC) wasn't able to hold off a game two comeback from Columbia College (15-13, 6-4 AMC), falling 11-2 (5 innings) and 8-7 on Saturday.
After surrendering six runs in the bottom of the first inning, Woods wasn't able to recover in game one.
Brooke Lopez was involved in both of WWU's runs in the top of the fourth, driving
Jessica Keilholz home with a triple then scoring on a Columbia error.
The Owls had the big inning of game two, scoring five runs in the top of the third, as Keilholz and Lopez had back-to-back triples. Keilholz plated a pair of Woods runners, but spent no time dawdling at third as Lopez cranked her second triple of the afternoon to plate Keilholz again. Another throwing error scored Lopez, giving the Owls a 5-3 lead.
Lopez helped the Owls build back to a 7-4 lead in the top of the fifth after CC scratched a run across in the third. This time, it was an RBI single for Lopez that scored Brooklyn Spillman, and despite advancing to third again, Lopez wasn't able to score as the Owls left two on base.
In the bottom of the sixth, Columbia managed to tie the game at 7-7, but WWU couldn't break through in the top of the seventh and surrendered a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh.
The Owls head back to Columbia on Sunday, taking on Stephens College in a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
