KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Debuting at no. 11 in the ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings and claiming the no. 1 spot in the March 28 release,
Vaclav Schneider earned First Team NAIA All-American honors as announced this week by the association. It is the second-straight first team nod for the junior, who becomes the third two-time first team selection for William Woods.
"As the first-ever no. 1 ranked player for William Woods and probably the best player of all time at Woods, this award is not surprising," said head coach
Chance Joost. "I told him when he was a freshman that this was going to happen, and I'm so proud of him for making it happen. And even with the success, he's one of the most humble players I've worked with. Way to go Vascoo!"
Schneider finished the season with the best singles record in WWU history at 25-4 (.862), just missing his previous single-season wins record of 27. He is tied with
Patrick Shelepov for the most singles wins in Woods history, with his 62-16 (.794) record also a program high.
After debuting just outside the top 10 in the preseason ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings, Schneider spent the entire spring among the top five in the nation, finishing the year ranked fifth.
He was also solid at doubles, finishing the season ranked 50th in the ITA rankings with a 25-10 overall record. Schneider and partner
Vitek Subert are one of just 11 pairings to be ranked while playing at the two line.
Honorees were selected by the NAIA All-America Selection Committee. Sixteen student-athletes were chosen to comprise first, second & third teams.
