FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods Owls (14-5, 6-3 Heart) continued their strong Heart of America Conference campaign with a commanding 3-0 sweep over the visiting Central Methodist Eagles (11-5, 3-3 Heart) on Tuesday night.
The Eagles came out aggressive in the opening set, quickly building a substantial lead. However, the Owls remained composed and mounted a late surge behind 5 kills from Luciana Paiva Pereira and 3 kills from Ivi Marcolino to claim a thrilling 25-23 comeback win.
Riding the momentum, William Woods struck early in the second set, once again led by the red-hot Pereira, who added 5 more kills. Though the Eagles rallied to narrow the gap, a timely timeout from head coach Aubrey Wilson helped the Owls regroup and secure a 25-20 victory.
The third set was all Owls from start to finish. Roberta Carlos de Silva delivered 3 aces as part of the team's 10 total aces, helping Woods maintain control throughout. Erin Treis closed out the match with a kill, sealing a dominant 25-14 win.
With the victory, the Owls improve to 14-5 overall and 6-3 in conference play. They'll be back in action on the road in Columbia, Missouri, for a non-conference showdown against Stephens College on Thursday at 6 p.m.
