CANTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's soccer team (2-10-2, 1-8-2 Heart) opened its conference doubleheader with a 4-1 loss to the Culver-Stockton College Wildcats (7-8-2, 4-7-1 Heart). Competing in their first season as members of the Heart of America Conference, the Owls have continued to search for consistency, dropping their eighth conference contest.
The Owls struck first on the scoreboard with a goal from standout Bri Reynolds in the 21st minute. Reynolds, a sophomore from Kearney, Mo., netted her sixth goal of the season off an impeccable pass from Adalyn Nienhaus, giving The Woods an early advantage.
Culver-Stockton responded ten minutes later, finding the equalizer through Rian Moore. The Wildcats then took the lead in the 41st minute—again off the right foot of Moore—sending the Owls into halftime trailing 2-1.
In the final 45 minutes, Culver-Stockton controlled possession, earning seven corner kicks and firing six shots at the Owls' keeper. The Wildcats capitalized on two of those opportunities to secure a 4-1 victory over their new conference foe.
Sierra Hahn and Zoe Hargis split time in net, each playing one half and recording four saves apiece. Outside of Reynolds, Tess Roberts and Sierra Poehlmann were the only Owls to test the Wildcat keeper, though both of their shots were turned away.
The Woods will close out their season next week, traveling to MidAmerica Nazarene on Tuesday before returning home to the NCAC for Senior Night against Benedictine.
