CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa- William Woods University men's cross country team showed strong individual efforts and continued team development in the men's 8K at the Seminole Valley Stampede, led by standout freshman Sean Wigger, who crossed the line in 56th place with a time of 26:20.3 to earn 51 points.
Wigger's performance once again highlighted his emergence as a reliable frontrunner for The Woods, maintaining pace with seasoned runners from across the field. Junior Blaine Brodersen followed close behind in 67th (26:35.5), continuing his consistent season as one of the squad's veteran anchors.
Sophomore Justus Yates recorded a 27:45.9 to finish 122nd, while freshman Hunter Bickell and senior Oshawi Burgher rounded out the Owls' top five, clocking in at 29:01.7 (159th) and 29:27.1 (175th) respectively. The combination of youth and experience proved valuable as the team continues to grow.
"The men had an amazing day! Everyone looked very strong and in control of their race. On the men's side we had 6 Personal Bests!" said Coach Stockton. "I want to give a special shout out to Graduate Assistant Coach, Mekeyla Gibson and Jenson Starr, the success we are enjoying is due to them and we are truly blessed to have them! "With so many personal bests or close to a personal best mid-season, I am excited to see how we perform in the next couple of meets! Proud and excited with their performance."
Sophomore Mason Voegeli (29:58.7) and freshman Gabriel Soest (29:58.9) finished stride-for-stride, followed by freshman Landon Higgins (30:02.9), senior Kerrick Adkins (32:40.5), and freshman Charlie Alderton (34:00.2), completing a full roster performance that showcased The Woods' growing depth.
Woods Men's Cross Country continues their growing season at the NAIA Blazing Tiger Classic hosted by Doane University October, 25th.
