WAVERLY, Iowa— Woods Cross Country ran at the Dan Huston Invitational hosted by Wartburg College. This is the first time Woods has ran at the course, and the first time any Owls team has visited the DIII in Iowa.
"We almost weren't going to have a competition this weekend because of the conditions at Seminole Valley," added newly announced Head Track and Field/Cross Country Coach Ryan Bontz. "We have had a up and down year and this opportunity at Wartburg gave some of the team some confidence going forward as we had some great races out there. This course is new for our runners, and with that came new challenges. I am very proud of the way the team battled adversity and look forward to next weekend when we head to a very familiar course in Gans Creek."
The Owls women's side had a relatively good day, considering the elements and new course challenges. Devan Humphreys pace the group with a time of 23:24 for a 20th place finish. Behind her was Gretchen Marriott in 42nd place at 24:07. Following in quick succession were Abbie Gibson (80th), Kathryn Hirts (87th), and Maggie Ramsey (90th). Rounding out the women's side Amy Schreck, Kaylee Johnson, and Tara Lowe all finished in the middle of the pack of 220 runners.
For the men, the injury bug has bit the Owls leaving just four runners in the race. Running as individuals, senior Kyle Hagemeyer paced the young Woods team with a 123rd place finish for a 28:04 time. Behind him Justus Yates finished in 28:14 which was good enough for a 128th place finish. Gabe Soest and Carter Nading rounded out the pack with 163rd and 178th place finishes respectively.
