COLUMBIA, Mo.- William Woods women's basketball (0-7, 0-4 Heart), still searching for their first win of the 2025-26 campaign, battled the elements to take on Columbia College (7-0, 0-0 AMC) in The Arena of Southwell Complex Saturday evening. Despite a strong first quarter, the Owls found themselves on the wrong side of a 30-point game at the final buzzer.
Woods held the Cougars off the board for the first five minutes of the game, taking an early 8-0 lead on makes from Jersee Wren, Mariah Prince, and two layups from forward Layla Young. The former AMC opponents battled for the remainder of the period, ending in a 15 to 9 lead for William Woods at the buzzer.
Quarter number two saw the undefeated Columbia College squad show why they have yet to lose a game this season, as they rattled off 27 points in the quarter, ending the half with a 16-point lead. The Cougars continued connecting in the third quarter, sinking four shots from distance to increase their lead to twenty-three.
The Owls ended the game scoring 24 second half points, falling to a 75-44 scoreline. Senior guard Wren led the way for Woods with 22 points and two assists, while five Owls scored in single digits. Prince patrolled the paint, adding a team-leading nine rebounds and four steals in the contest.
William Woods returns to the hardwood on December 3rd when they host Culver-Stockton College in a Heart of America Conference doubleheader. Tip-off at 5:30 p.m. in Anderson Arena.
