BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - Mariyah Brumley (207 pounds) placed third and Teani Medeiros-Maielua (131) fifth to lead William Woods University in the Jimmy May Open, hosted by No. 14 Baker University Saturday at Collins Center.

"I think overall we had a solid day," William Woods wrestling coach Jacob Lorentz said. "We scored points, were in matches and competed overall better. Again, to have two placers at this tourney is pleasing. We are doing the right things; just have to continue to have confidence and prepare for the conference tourney in two weeks."

Brumley guided the Owls with 21½ points from five pins. She pinned (RV) Avila University's Camryn Gibson in 44 seconds in Round 1, No. 15 Ottawa University's Dajia Anderson in 1:49 in Consolation Round 2, No. 3 William Penn University's Phoebe Burt in 1:22 in Consolation Round 3, (RV) Missouri Baptist University's No. 19 Abigail Chandler in 1:05 in the Consolation Semifinals and Ottawa's Faith Spicer in 22 seconds in the third-place match.

Medeiros-Maielua tallied 15 points with three pins. She earned pins over No. 13 Texas Wesleyan University's Kayla Nguyen (:50) in Round 2, (RV) Central Methodist University's Berlin Kiddoo (2:09) in the quarterfinals and No. 16 Oklahoma City University's No. 18 Destiny Campbell (5:06) in the fifth-place bout.

Also earning points for the Owls were Abby Piper (160) with four, Gretchen Marriott (145) with three and Skylon Boone (138) with 2½.

William Woods has a few weeks to prepare for the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament, which William Penn will host at 9 a.m. March 1 at the Penn Activity Center in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
