Box Score FULTON, Mo. - Noah Burton won his No. 1 doubles and singles contests as No. 17 William Woods University (9-6) lost 5-2 to NCAA Division II Maryville University (4-8) Friday at Suzanne Neal Memorial Tennis Complex.

Opening the match on the right foot, Burton and Robbie Schorr secured a 6-3 No. 1 doubles victory over the Saints' Lorenzo Biava and Jose Herandez. Maryville sent it to a double-point deciding third matchup after WWU's Aoi Ooka and Jesper Seger fell 6-4 to Juan Suero and Jack Quilty. Denying the Saints' comeback attempt, the Owls locked down the doubles point when Cole Horton and Thomas Geukemeijer took a 7-6 decision over Michel Delaloye and Diego Alvarez.

Burton, ranked 37th in the ITA NAIA men's tennis singles rankings released Thursday, doubled WWU's team lead, beating Hernandez 6-1, 6-2 at the top position in singles. However, Maryville didn't lose again, earning a 5-2 comeback victory by taking the final five singles matchups. The Owls' Geukemeijer lost 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 to Suero at the four slot, Schorr 6-2, 7-6 to Alvarez at the six, Cole Horton, ranked 46th, 7-5, 6-7, 6-1 to Biava at the two, Seger 6-3, 6-2 to Quilty at the five and Ooka 6-1, 6-2 to Delaloye at the three.

William Woods (2-0 Heart of America Athletic Conference) concludes its busy three-match weekend with a doubleheader, hosting Midland University (4-7) at 10 a.m. and Heart opponent Grand View University (3-10, 0-0 Heart) in its Senior Night matchup at 8 p.m. Saturday.
