"What a night to celebrate our seniors, playing under the lights made it a special atmosphere, and I'm proud of the guys for getting a great 7-0 conference sweep," Lemberger Hughes said.
Prior to the Owls' women's and men's teams commanding Suzanne Neal's courts under the lights, William Woods held its Senior Night ceremony with men's players Schorr,
Phillip Lucas, Bernius and Burton, and men's graduate assistant
Vitek Subert among the individuals recognized.
Lemberger Hughes shared her thoughts on what each member has brought to the team.
Schorr: "Robbie has spent five years at William Woods and has been a big part in building this program. He has contributed a lot to help make the program as successful as it is now. Robbie is one of the most naturally gifted players I have ever met. His tennis IQ is phenomenal, and he made it easy to work with him as a player. His talent and leadership will be missed!"
Lucas: "'Phill' is the ultimate teammate. He is one of the biggest supporters of William Woods Athletics, as well as being a leader on campus. 'Phill' brought so much energy to the team, and I sure will miss having him around. I wish him the best for the future and know he will achieve whatever he puts his mind to."
Bernius: "Patrick's leadership and work ethic are unmatched. He always puts in 100% regardless of the day. He has been a joy to have on the team, and I know he has big things ahead of him. Notre Dame is lucky to have him, and I can't wait to see the success that awaits him!"
Burton: "We sadly only had one year with Noah, but it's been a great year, and I am thrilled we got to have him for the time we did. Noah has been a huge asset to the team, coming in with lots of experience. I'm sure whatever he chooses to do in the future, he will be very successful."
Subert: "Vitek's willingness to help on the court has not gone unnoticed. He has been a huge asset to the coaching staff, and I know everyone will miss having him around. His knowledge of tennis and the energy he brings to the courts have been a great addition to the program, and I am sad we only got him as a coach for a year. Vitek has been a part of this program for five years, and his contributions are significant. I wish him the best of luck on his move to Spain and know he will be a very successful professional."
The Owls conclude their seven-match homestand by hosting NCAA Division II Northwest Missouri State University (7-6) at 3 p.m. on April 8.
