Box Score 2 ARLINGTON, Texas - Following a rain delay, No. 12 William Woods University (6-5, 1-0 Heart of America Athletic Conference) played a pair of matches that concluded after the team result was decided, falling 4-0 to No. 10 Our Lady of the Lake University (10-1) before beating host/Heart opponent Texas Wesleyan University (4-5, 0-1 Heart) 4-1 in the TXWES Steve Foster Invitational Sunday at Arlington Tennis Center.

Abigail Lemberger Hughes said. "It wasn't the result we wanted against OLLU, but the energy was great considering our circumstances. I was proud of them for coming straight back out and grabbing the win against Texas Wesleyan in our conference match 4-1. We have a lot of home games coming up, so I'm ready for my guys to compete on our home turf."
Following a 6½ hour rain delay, the Owls and Saints took the court for a top-12 matchup.
William Woods dropped the first two doubles matchups, handing Our Lady of the Lake the doubles point. The Owls'
Aoi Ooka and
Jesper Seger lost 6-1 to David Ekpenyong and Joao Santos at the two-line, then the Saints won the doubles point after WWU's
Thomas Geukemeijer and
Lars Ankerman fell 6-3 to Luis Hernandez and Aymeric Bruno at the three slot.
Geukemeijer also played at the three in singles, dropping a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Bruno, ranked 31st in the latest ITA NAIA singles rankings. Our Lady of the Lake extended its lead to 3-0 after the Owls'
Noah Burton, slotted 40th in the ITA NAIA singles rankings, lost 6-1, 6-1 to Ekpenyong, ranked second. The Saints earned the match-deciding team point when WWU's
Paulo Lopes Ferreira fell 6-1, 6-2 to Santos at the six spot.
In their final match of the invitational, the Owls regained their winning record by beating the host Rams.
The two teams battled for the doubles point as Texas Wesleyan won the first matchup to conclude: WWU's Burton and
Robbie Schorr lost 6-2 to the Rams' Luca Link and Marco Salamanca at the top position. Then, the Owls prevailed in the two remaining doubles bouts; Ooka and Seger won 6-3 over TWU's Malte Sommer and Elliot Hoffmann at the two, and Ankerman and Geukemeijer beat the Rams' Fabio Martin-Abril and Adriano Andrade 6-3 at the three.Â
Seger made it 2-0 William Woods, winning the first singles matchup to finish, 6-1, 6-2, against Andrade at the four line. Burton gave the Owls a 3-0 advantage, defeating Salamanca 6-2, 7-5 at the one slot. TWU picked up its only point when Ooka fell 5-7, 6-0 (10-4) to Hoffman at the two spot, which cut WWU's lead to 3-1. Lopes Ferreira handed the Owls the match-clinching point with his 6-4, 2-6 (10-8) triumph over Martin-Abril at the six.
William Woods travels back to Fulton and will host Bethel College (5-1) on Saint Patrick's Day at 1 p.m. March 17 at Suzanne Neal Memorial Tennis Complex.
