JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Competing in less-than-ideal conditions, William Woods University's
Ian Schwierjohn earned his second win of the year in the 1,500-meter run in the Lincoln Open, hosted by NCAA Division II Lincoln University, Saturday at Dwight T. Reed Stadium.
Schwierjohn clocked an impressive time of 4 minutes and 1.28 seconds in the 24-competitor 1,500 race, edging out runner-up Oscar Curry of Columbia College by 0.10 seconds. Fellow Owl
Jenson Starr also medaled in the event, placing fifth at 4:03.98, good enough to surpass his previous personal best set at the Lincoln Open two years ago by 5.28 seconds.
"I am so proud of how well our athletes dealt with the challenging conditions today," William Woods track and field assistant
Gregory A. Keeler said. "The weather was wet, cold and windy as conditions worsened as the day went along. I was particularly impressed with Ian and Jenson in the 1,500 as they worked together to fight the wind. They showed true teamwork, which ensured each of them would have a great performance."
Also shining on the track for The Woods,
Gabriel Soest took third out of 19 in the 800 run at 2:01.03, Michael Moore-Fondren, in his first race of the year, had the second fastest time out of 25 in the 100 dash prelims at 11.53 and
Mason Voegeli received bronze in the three-runner 3,000 run at 12:17.31, his first collegiate outdoor time in the event.
The Owls maintained their strong form in the javelin with American Midwest Conference Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
Isiah Craighead placing third out of 12 at 44.66 meters (146 feet and 6 inches) and
Wyatt Martin fifth at 40.23m (132-0).
In the quick 4x100-meter relay, William Woods'

Demario Wright,

Jacob Polacek medaled, finishing third out of four at 44.17.
Competing in another meet hosted by an NCAA Division II school, University of Central Missouri, the Owls will be back on the track and field for the Outdoor Mule Relays at noon Friday at Walton Stadium/Kennedy Field in Warrensburg.
