MARION, Ind. - Thrown into a gauntlet of a year and hardly blinking, William Woods University's
Jenson Starr ran five 10,000-meter runs (6.2 miles), a 5k and other events this spring, the latest and most significant being a 10k, competing in the 25-runner final in the 73rd Annual NAIA Men's Track & Field National Championships Wednesday at Wildcat Stadium.
Under the lights, Starr started strong before reaching the finish line in 32 minutes and 41.1 seconds, to place 24th. Highlighting Starr's tremendous start, he was in 13th at numerous markers, the last at the 3.6k point.
"Way too ambitious early on and paid the price in the last third of the race," Starr said. "Got what I wanted from the race, though, a national experience to use for next year."
The Owls look forward to making a complete transition to the Heart of America Athletic Conference next school year.
