FULTON, Mo. - Not much more can be said than complete dominance as the Owls of William Woods University (1-1) soared past the Stars of Stephens College (0-3) with six names making the scoresheet in their 7-0 home-opening shutout victory Saturday afternoon at North Campus Athletic Complex.
Tess Roberts, the first Owl to score, happened to be the highest-scoring of the bunch, netting William Woods' first goal 13:09 into the contest and her second in the 19th minute.Â
Roberts opened the scoring with a penalty-kick goal, using her right foot and placing the shot off the inside left post and into the net as the Stars' shot-stopper was left flailing in the middle of the goal. Soon after a brilliant bit of defending from WWU defender
Megan Schutze-Schweitzer, who then showcased her speed on the counterattack, Roberts went on a run down the right wing and placed a cheeky chip over Stephens' onrushing goalkeeper to double the Owls' advantage.
Addie Robins finished off William Woods' three-goal first half in the 33rd minute. The Fort Zumwalt North alumna netted the first goal of her collegiate career into the left side of the goal off a deflected
Bri Reynolds shot.
Four more Owls etched their names into the goalscoring section of the box score in the second half as Woods scored half of its eight shots on goal in that time.
Senior defender
Aubrie Golus made it a memorable match for her, scoring her first college goal in the 57th game of her career, and did it in an exciting manner. From well outside the penalty box, Golus went upper deck and slotted her right-footed shot top right to increase William Woods' lead to 4-0 in the 51st minute.
Just over a minute later, sophomore
Giselle Soltero also recorded her first collegiate goal, rushing past the Stars and capitalizing on her breakaway chance by scoring her powerful shot into the right corner to put Woods up 5-0.
Zoe Lockhert added the sixth goal of the Owls' offensive onslaught in the 69th minute, tucking in a shot near the goal and past a Stars defender marking her and into the left corner.
Finishing off the highly offensive match for William Woods in the 74th minute,
MK Kgotlelelo notched the Owls' lone assist of the game when she played a beautiful ball from the middle of the pitch into Reynolds, who used her speed and ran right around Stephens' defense and placed her right-footed shot into the middle of an open net.
On top of the excellent attacking display, William Woods' starting goalkeeper
Sierra Hahn registered her first clean sheet of the year and stopped all seven of the Stars' shots on goal in her 54:48 of action. The Owls had twice as many shots on target (14), a clinical utilization of their 17 total shots, one fewer than Stephens' 18.
The Owls have another fun local matchup to conclude their nonconference schedule, taking the short trip over to Blue Jay Field at Kent and Judith Mueller Stadium to play crosstown, NCAA Division III Westminster College (0-1) at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
