FULTON, Mo.- Back at home, William Woods University (1-3-1, 0-1-1 HAAC) battled to a 4-4 draw against Heart of America Athletic Conference opponent Baker University (1-3-3, 0-1-2 HAAC), powered by a standout performance from sophomore Bri Reynolds.
Baker struck first in the 7th minute when Carys English slipped a rolling shot past the outstretched arms of the Owls' goalkeeper to take an early 1-0 lead. Just a minute later, the Owls responded as Reynolds delivered a perfectly placed pass to freshman forward KG Malefo, who tucked her shot into the far corner to level the score at 1-1.
Woods held off several offensive pushes from the Wildcats before conceding a second goal on a deflected cross in the 24th minute. But the Owls responded again, this time in the 34th minute, when Reynolds found the back of the net on a clean finish inside the box, set up by Alyson Poe. Goalkeeper Sierra Hahn tallied four saves in the first half to preserve the 2-2 tie going into halftime.
Baker came out strong in the second half, netting two quick goals in the 63rd and 66th minutes to take a 4-2 lead. The Owls cut the deficit to one in the 78th minute as Malefo scored her second of the day, assisted by fellow freshman Addie Robins.
With just over six minutes remaining, the Owls found their equalizer. Reynolds played a long ball upfield to junior standout Tess Roberts, who beat her defender and launched a stunning strike from 40 yards out into the top right corner of the net to tie the game at 4-4.
Neither side could break the deadlock in the final minutes, cementing a 4-4 draw.
The Owls hit the road this weekend to face Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. Visit wwuowls.com for live video and stat links.
