Action Packed Match Ends With Loss to Missouri Valley

Fulton, Mo – In another home contest for the Owls, William Woods University (12-4, 5-2 Heart) faced off for the second time against the Missouri Valley Vikings (8-8, 2-4 Heart) in another Heart of America Conference Game.

The Vikings came out in the first set swinging, as they gained the lead quickly and kept it for most of the match. But the Owls would pace them throughout the first set thanks to 6 kills from Ivi Marcolino. But Missouri Valley would not back down, as they would pull out the first set of the match with a 25-22

Woods came out on the second set firing as they got out to a quick 9-4 lead with Ryleigh Sander getting 2 aces in that run. The Vikings would quickly respond, tying the game back up to 9. The Owls started to pull away again, with Luciana Paiva Pereira leading the charge with 7 kills to help the Owls pull away from the Vikings. The Owls would pull out the second set of the game with a 25-20 victory to bring the set to a 1-1 tie.

The Owls would keep the pedal to the gas, putting up a demanding lead and holding the lead for the majority of the match. The owls were spreading the love this match as multiple players recorded 2 or more kills, with Luciana leading the charge with 5 kills and Pamela recording a block, kill, and ace in this match that Woods took 25-16.

Missouri Valley would come back strongly in the fourth set as the Owls had no answers for the Vikings in this set. Despite 3 kills from Pamela and Ivi, as well as 4 kills from Luciana. The Vikings would win the fourth set by a commanding 25-15 score.

It all came down to the fifth set for Woods, as they were trading the lead with Missouri Valley until the Vikings started to pull away. Despite a last-minute effort for the Owls, they would drop the set 15-11 and a match filled with fireworks, regardless of the 3-2 loss to the Vikings.

The Owls are back in action in a quick turnaround as they hit the road for Canton, Mo., to take on the Wildcats from Culver-Stockton at 7 p.m.
