Owls Fend Off Wilcats for 3-1 Win

Canton, Mo – William Woods University (14-5, 6-4 Heart) hit the road to take on Culver-Stockton College (6-11, 2-7 Heart) in some late-night volleyball action.

In the first set of the match, the Owls came out of the gate on fire as they would explode out to an 11-1 lead over the Wildcats. There would be no answer for attacker Luciana Paiva Pereira, who recorded 7 kills and helped seal the match and give the Owls a 25-12 win in the first set of the match.

The Owls kept up the pressure for the second set, jumping out to a quick 10-2 lead over the Wildcats with Ivi Marcolino putting on a clinic for Woods. Ivi would record 6 kills in a row and a block to cap it off as the Owls started to pull away from the Wildcats. Lennon Adams would get in on the fun with 4 kills that would help Woods dominate the second set 25-11.

Culver-Stockton would not let Woods go easily, as they put up a fight in the 3rd set. The Owls could not get anything going as the Wildcats would keep a sizeable lead for the remainder of the set, as the Wildcats took the set 25-17.

With Woods leading the set 2-1, they decided to shut the door in the 4th set with Lorenza Lagana stepping up and recording 4 kills for the Owls, and Pamela Durazo joining her with 4 kills as well. The Wildcats would continue to fight as they paced the Owls, the lead was just too much as Woods would win the set 25-17 and the match 3-1.

The Owls are back in action on Wednesday against the Central Methodist Eagles as they host them at Anderson Arena at 6 p.m.
