CRETE, Neb.— William Woods cross country, ending their regular-season events for the year, traveled to Nebraska to take on the NAIA Blazing Tiger Classic hosted by Doane in conjuncture with Concordia University Nebraska.
"We had a good showing in a really competitive field today," noted Coach Bontz. "The team did a great job of battling the wind today, and I think this will set us up to finish on a high note in the conference tournament in a couple weeks."
The women's squad placed 22d out of 28 total teams in the event, including several top programs from around the country. Gretchen Marriott paced the group running a 24:09.8 time, which was good enough for a 69th place finish. Sophomore Devan Humphreys fell just behind Marriott with a time of 24:23.1 (80th). Rounding out the squad, Maggie Ramsey (200), Amy Schreck (262), Kathryn Hirtz (265), and Tara Lowe (270) all finished with times around the 27-minute mark. The field featured 335 total runners.
The men, only entering four individual runners in the event, struggled to find their pace off the start. Gabe Soest eventually took the lead for the Owls group, earning a time of 28:37.8 with Kyle Hagemeyer right behind at 28:53.1. Carter Nading and Justus Yates both finished in quick succession from each other as well, with Nading at 30:30.5 and Yates at 31:21.
