FULTON, Mo. - Year two of the William Woods Men's Lacrosse program is now underway after the Owls played host to the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils in a late morning contest at the North Campus Athletic Complex. LTU was able to halt the majority of the Woods' scoring attempts while finding the net often, besting WWU 16-6 and dropping the Owls to 0-1 to begin the season.
The Blue Devils found their stride early in the game, netting three shots in the first quarter and three in the second before William Woods found their first score. However, with 2:30 left on the clock in the second quarter, freshman
Joey Weingardt blazed a shot off of the assist from
Jack Brackin past Lawrence's goalie, tallying his first career score and the first for the Owls in 2026. Brackin and
Emmet Mathis carried the Woods' momentum further before half, scoring one a piece and leaving the score at 6-3 heading into the break.
Despite a pair of scores from Brackin, granting him a hat trick, and the first of freshman
Collis Rhodes' young career in the second half, William Woods was unable to overcome the gradually increasing lead the Blue Devils continued to build.
Drew Stubblefield spent the first three quarters of the contest in goal, saving a total of 11 shots.
Zach Hearn saw his first action in green and white, protecting the net for the final quarter of play and saving two.
The Owls look to pick up win number one on a trip to Memphis, Tennessee over the weekend of February 27th. The men will face Tennessee Wesleyan University and Webber International University, although the times and dates are to be determined.
