Woods Falls Short in Opening Game of 2026 Season

WINFIELD, Kan.- William Woods University flag football (0-1) dropped their first game of the 2026 campaign to Southwestern College (Kan.) (1-0) on Saturday afternoon. The Owls, who struggled offensively on the day, were in mid-season form defensively holding the Jinx to a 7-0 scoreline.

The lone score in the contest was notched with eight minutes left in the first half, when Southwestern College used a two-play, 71-yard drive to cross the goal line and score the go-ahead touchdown.

Under center for the Owls, Shamya Williams, aired it out tallying 160 yards in the contest. Giselle Soltero spearheaded William Woods' receiving efforts, reeling in four catches for 74 yards on the day.

Anye Glasper anchored the defensive efforts with seven tackles and four pass breakups. A'Jah Smith and Sam Menard forced pressured throws, tallying three combined sacks which contributed to the team total five.

William Woods is back in action March 4th at Cottey College. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. in Nevada, Mo.
