LAMONI, Iowa - William Woods faced a tough KCAC matchup against Graceland, ending with a final score of 61-19. The Owls showed tenacity in the fourth quarter, putting up all 19 of their points, spotlighting two impressive passing touchdowns. The Yellowjackets' strong passing game and six interceptions were key factors in the end result.
The game kicked off with Graceland starting at their own 14-yard line. The Owls' defense, with notable plays from
Anye Glasper and
A'Jah Smith, halted GU's initial drive, forcing a punt. William Woods was unsuccessful in their first drive as well, sending the ball back to the home team.
Graceland capitalized soon after, with a 59-yard touchdown pass, followed by a successful extra point. The Owls' next drive saw
Shamya Williams connect with
Addie Chilek for an 8-yard pass, but it stalled, resulting in a turnover on downs.
Continuing their momentum, Graceland scored again with a 52-yard pass play, though the extra point attempt was intercepted by WWU to halt further scoring, ending the period with the Yellowjackets ahead 13-0.
In the second and third quarters, Graceland extended their lead, entering the final quarter up 53-0.
In the fourth, William Woods found its way onto the scoreboard. Williams intercepted a pass at Graceland's 27-yard line, returning it to the 9-yard line. She turned around to throw a 4-yard touchdown pass to
A'Jah Smith, closing the gap slightly. The Owls would score twice more, resulting in a 61-19 final.
Shamya Williams tallied two interceptions and passed for 195 yards along with two touchdowns. On defense,
Addie Chilek contributed significantly with eight flag pulls and also added 54 receiving yards.
Nivea Boyd collected 110 receiving yards and scored one touchdown, while
A'Jah Smith also reached the end zone with a receiving touchdown.
Looking ahead, William Woods University will host Hesston College on Saturday, March 21 at 1 p.m. CT. The matchup will take place at the North Campus Athletic Complex in Fulton, Missouri.
