OTTAWA, Kan. - In their third Heart conference outing of the season, William Woods Men's Lacrosse remains unblemished. With an impenetrable defensive performance, the squad took care of this weekend's opponent, the Ottawa Braves, 18-2.
Early into the contest, the rather non-competitive game saw some excitement. Connor White opened the goal-scoring 18 seconds into regulation off an assist from Ethan NewMyer. OU would respond with a goal of their own, tying the score. This pattern would repeat once, resulting in another White score and response by the Braves.
However, the second Ottawa goal, scored with 5:23 left in the first, would be their last. From that point on, William Woods would tally 16 more goals on their way to victory.
Goal scorers for the Owls include White (3), Emmet Mathis (3), Collis Rhodes (2), NewMyer (2), Lyle Wiley (2), Xavier Dockery (2), Jack Brackin (2), Joey Weingardt (1), and Jerry Swenson (1). White added to his hat trick with an outstanding seven assists for 10 total points. NewMyer contributed two, and Weingardt, Drew Longmeyer, and Chris Hanson each assisted one goal.
The Owls caused seven turnovers as a team, each by a different athlete. Rhodes led the team's season-high 49 ground ball effort with five.
Drew Stubblefield saw all 60 minutes of action in goal, saving five shots on the evening.
