GULF SHORES, Ala.- William Woods softball (5-9) dropped a pair of games Saturday at the Gulf Coast Invitational, losing to Central Baptist College and Texas A&M-Texarkana.
William Woods recorded just five hits on the day, four coming in game one. The Owls gave up six earned runs in the bottom of the second, before notching two runs in the top of the third. Mariah Prince led off the inning with a free pass, followed by a bunt hit from Lexi Lewis. With one out Ella Aguiar walked, leaving the bases loaded for the hot bat of Addie Rhea. The cleanup hitter doubled, scoring the lone two runs for The Woods in Prince and Lewis. William Woods would go on to give up four more runs in the fourth inning, dropping game one in five innings by a 10-2 scoreline.
Game two did not provide much relief for the Owls, as Woods collected just one hit in the game off the bat of Aguiar. William Woods held a tight game until the fifth inning, when the Texas A&M-Texarkana lead grew from three, to eleven on eight hits and one free pass in the frame. The Owls were unable to scratch any runs in the game, seeing only three base runners for the duration of the contest.
The Owls close out their Gulf Coast Invitational schedule tomorrow, with games against Bethel (Tenn.) and Morningside College. Game one starts at 11:15 a.m. with game two to follow at 1:30 p.m.
