FULTON, Mo. - William Woods Men's Lacrosse played host to the Saints of Siena Heights University over the weekend. Overpowering SHU in all facets of the game, the Owls were able to enter the win column for the first time in 2026 with a 12-7 victory.
The men jumped on the Saints early, accruing four goals before the their opponents could respond. The Woods' scoring efforts were catalyzed by the young midfielder,
Collis Rhodes, who assisted the first pair of goals by
Connor White and
Emmet Mathis, and piled on two unassisted scores himself.
Despite the early barrage of goals, Siena Heights stayed competitive for most of the match, beginning with a response of back-to-back goals to bring the score within two. The Owls would go scoreless from 11 minutes in the second half down to 2:55, when
Joey Weingardt netted an attempt, again from the stick of Rhodes. White and
Xavier Dockery paired up for the final William Woods goal of the half, as the former found his way past the goalie for the second time on the afternoon.
WWU was unwilling to let their lead slip coming out of the break. Dockery and White reversed roles to manufacture the 7th Owls' goal a minute and a half into the third period. NewMyer, the Woods' leading attacker on the season, singlehandedly broke down the defense for the final two goals of the quarter, cementing another hat trick in the 2026 campaign. The final period of regulation proved to be all Owls.
Jack Brackin and Weingardt,
Lyle Wiley and Dockery, and NewMyer and White comprised the rest of the scoring.
Kyle Fischer and
Loren Woita led the defensive efforts for William Woods, each causing two turnovers. Fischer scooped up six ground balls as well.
WWU controlled possession through face offs, winning a majority of the battles.
Drew Hannam and
Jacob Burgin went 6-11 and 7-12 on the afternoon respectively.
Drew Stubblefield was shut down in his first start in goal in multiple games. The sophomore gave up just seven, saving 11 shots, including multiple attempts of within five yards by the Saints.
Men's Lacrosse will look to build off of the weekend's success with another home contest on Wednesday, Mar. 11th against Mount Vernon Nazarene University at 6 p.m.
