OSKALOOSA, Iowa - Riding a three game conference winning streak, William Woods Men's Lacrosse was looking to stay hot against No. 5 William Penn in Iowa. The Statesmen had other thoughts on the matter, limiting the Owls' offense in what would be a 10-4 loss for WWU.
The afternoon began with promise, as William Woods shot out of the gates to begin the contest.
Joey Weingardt slashed his way through the sea of yellow and blue to net the first goal of the game at the 9:28 mark.
Ethan NewMyer would follow that up with his own unassisted goal at 5:31, putting the Owls up 2-0 early in the first period. Unfortunately for the Woods, WPU responded by rattling off seven straight goals, a mark that WWU would be unable to surpass.
The final two goals scored by William Woods came from the pocket of
Xavier Dockery late in the third off the pass from
Jack Brackin. NewMyer scored a second goal on the afternoon late into the fourth, also coming via assist by Brackin.
Drew Stubblefield saw all 60 minutes of action in goal. His effort of 14 saves and just 10 goals put the Owls in a position for success. Stubblefield also led the team in ground balls with 6.
Gage Loffer interrupted the Statesmen's attack with 2 caused turnovers.
The Owls fall to 3-1 in Heart conference play, still with much on the line for the remainder of the season. The men are set for another challenge against (RV) Benedictine College on Wednesday, April 8th at 6 p.m.
