Box Score 1 LAMMONI, Iowa- William Woods softball (14-17, 8-8 Heart) split the afternoon with Graceland University (7-17, 2-9 Heart) in their first ever Heart of America Athletic Conference meeting. The Owls, who rode the hot hand of Taylor Baumhoer to a 3-0 win in game one, fell short in a ten-inning marathon in game two by a 16-15 scoreline.
In game one, Baumhoer tallied eight punch outs while allowing only three hits for the duration of the contest. Woods was able to scratch three runs across in the game, scoring solo runs in the first, fourth, and fifth innings. In the top of the first, Addie Rhea barreled a ball that brought in Corynne Miller for the first run of the game. Brooklynn Spillman extended the Woods' lead in the third with a sacrifice fly out to right field that brought in Rhea. The last run of the contest came off the bat of Ella Aguiar, who elevated a double into deep left field that scored Lexi Lewis in the fifth inning.
After a 30-minute hiatus, both offenses returned with a vengeance as they exploded for a combined 31 runs in the marathon game. William Woods tallied 19 hits in the affair, with three long balls sprinkled in throughout the match. Rhea and Sammy Lohnes each elevated home runs with the bases juiced for two grand slams in the game, while senior shortstop Brooklynn Spillman notched a three-run home run. Woods eventually fell short in the contest 15-16, but showed offensive acumen throughout.
William Woods returns tomorrow with a matchup at Peru State.
