FULTON, Mo.- William Woods women's tennis lost their tenth match of the season on Wednesday afternoon, marking the first time the Owls have met that mark since the 2022-23 school year. For the first time in the history of women's tennis on the campus of William Woods University, one of these loses would be to the Spartans of Missouri Baptist University.
The Owls failed to notch a win in doubles play, with all three groupings falling short on 6-2, 6-4, and 6-4 scorelines respectively.
In singles play, the Owls saw a huge win out of the #2 slot with Samya Sikand besting her opponent in the third set tiebreak point. However, after clinching the doubles point, MBU went on to sweep #1, #3, #4 singles in consecutive sets to seal their first ever match win over the Owls.
Woods did see a positive on the day, with freshman Elise Vandewiele taking her matchup in the #6 slot against a senior from the Spartans lineup.
William Woods moves to 6-10 on the year after the 5-2 loss to Missouri Baptist, and 12-1 all-time against the Spartans. They return on April 16th at Missouri Valley College for their last regular season matchup before the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championships in Kansas City.
