Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

William Woods Goes Toe-to-Toe With the Ravens

FULTON, Mo. - The Owls' Men's Lacrosse team had their hands full against the No. 9 Ravens of Benedictine College at the North Campus Athletic Complex. What was a competitive game through the final period of play ultimately fell in the favor of BC, who won the Heart conference matchup 10-7.

The Ravens were able to put one on the scoreboard first, scoring less than a minute into the contest. However, the Woods responded in timely fashion. On a quick turnaround, Kyle Fischer used the change of possession to create an advantage. As he sprinted towards Benedictine's goal, the defense collapsed towards him. From this chaos, Fischer passed to an open Connor White, who continued his scoring ways by sneaking a shot past the Ravens' keeper, tying the game at ones.

Benedictine would respond in their one manner, though, in this instance, it was a flurry of scores rather than just one. BC rattled four straight goals in the first period to create a 5-1 advantage over the Owls. Before the end of the initial period, Jack Brackin found Xavier Dockery, who scored the 2nd goal for the green and white on the night. In the remainder of the first half, the Ravens would score two to the Owls' one, credited to Ethan NewMyer without an assist. Going into the break, BC had the lead over WWU, 7-3.

If the first half was controlled by Benedictine, then the second was under the influence of William Woods. Within a five minute span in the third period, the Owls scored three goals to bring the game within one. The first was a Jack Brackin shot into the back of the net, followed by a NewMyer goal from the stick of Dockery, and concluded by a laser from Brackin that steamed past the goalie off the pass by NewMyer.

Despite the efforts, the Ravens scored one goal in the third and two in the fourth, while the Owls found the net just once in the final period from a highlight shot by Emmet Mathis. In the end, Benedictine was able to hold on their lead just long enough to outlast the Woods, 10-7.

William Woods Men's Lacrosse received their second conference loss, falling to 3-2. The squad will look to bounce back with a home contest involving senior day festivities against Missouri Valley College on Saturday, Apr. 11th at 2 p.m.
