FULTON, Mo.- In the first matchup of the 2026-27 school year, William Woods Men's Soccer (0-1) hosted former AMC opponent, the Harris-Stowe State University Hornets (1-0), at the North Campus Athletic Complex. Although Woods leads the all-time series 18-8-3, Harris-Stowe came out firing on all cylinders as they tallied seven goals in a 7-1 victory over the Owls.
HSSU opened the game with a goal in the 27th minute from their freshman midfielder Biffi, who slotted a shot over Woods' freshman netminder. The Hornets carried that one-goal advantage into the half.
The Harris-Stowe lead was cemented shortly after the half when the Hornets netted three goals in quick succession in the 51st, 54th, and 58th minutes, respectively. The William Woods defensive line, playing a man down after a red card was shown to an Owls defender in the 57th minute, conceded three additional goals in the second half to solidify their 7-1 advantage in the season opener.
The one bright spot of the evening for the Owls was their lone goal, coming in the 69th minute off the right foot of newcomer Jaden Nwanyama. That goal would mark Woods' only shot on goal for the contest despite four attempts.
William Woods is back Tuesday afternoon as they host another familiar foe in Hannibal-LaGrange University. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
