FULTON, Mo.- Coming off the worst season in William Woods Women's Soccer history, the Owls (0-1) opened their 2026 campaign against a very formidable Harris-Stowe State University (2-0) program that fell in the AMC Championship a year ago.
Harris-Stowe opened the match firing on all cylinders, throttling three shots on goal at The Woods' keeper, Sierra Hahn, in the first 12 minutes. Despite saving two shots, Hahn conceded the first point of the contest with a goal in the 11th minute from the Hornets' senior midfielder Oluoch, her first of the season.
William Woods found their equalizer just seven minutes later off the right foot of graduate student Tess Roberts. The Owls forward unloaded a high arching shot from 20 yards out, slotting it just out of reach of the HSSU keeper for Woods' first goal of the young season. Addie Robins and Giulia Starman combine for the assist on the play, leveling the match at one-goal.
The Hornets answered ten minutes later with the eventual game winner from Naomi Mangiapane, their leading goal scorer for the season. Hahn finished with eight saves on ten shots, good enough for an 80% clip in net despite the narrow loss.
Woods returns to the pitch Tuesday evening when they host Hannibal-LaGrange University.
