Women's Basketball Visits College Of The Ozarks

Getting back on the hardwood after the Thanksgiving break, the William Woods University women's basketball team heads to Point Lookout, Mo., for a contest against NAIA Division II power College of the Ozarks. Tipoff for tonight's game is set for 5:30 p.m., with live stats available through the schedule link on wwuowls.com.

Coach Dan Chapla's squad looks to extend its three-game winning streak against a tough host. The Owls, currently 5-2, are led by Sharron Andrews (Oakland/Hayward, Calif.), who collected the first AMC Player of the Week honors for the 2011-12 season last week. Andrews is currently averaging 13.9 pts/gm, and is ranked 15th in the nation in steals with 24 on the year. Megan Aubuchon (Old Monroe, Mo.) is the leading rebounder for WWU, pulling down 8.0 (50th in the nation) per game, adding 8.9 pts/gm on the offensive ledger. Ciara Tatum (Columbia, Mo.) is also ranked for the Owls, with her assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.0 good for 39th in the country.

As a team, WWU has been stout on the defensive side of the ledger, ranking 21st in the country and allowing just 57.0 pts/gm to its opponents, as well as the 43rd best blocks total in the country at 17.

The NAIA Division II Lynx are also riding a winning streak, as they are currently 6-0 on the year. Morgan Smith leads College of the Ozarks in a number of categories - scoring (19.8 pts/gm), rebounding (8.5/gm) and blocks (3) - and they are among the Div. II leaders in most categories.

Looking at the matchup reveals two fairly even teams despite a big edge in overall scoring for the host Lynx. The teams are split by three-tenths of a percentage point in field-goal shooting (WWU 0.380 - COFO 0.383) and just six-tenths of a percentage point from distance (WWU 0.281 - COFO 0.289). The hosts hold a slight rebounding edge (45.0 - 39.0), but WWU turns the ball over less (16.7/gm-17.5/gm) and swipe the ball more (10.0/gm-9.0/gm).

After tonight's game, the Owls return home and will be a part of the Arris' Pizza and Pub College Basketball Classic.
