FULTON, Mo. -- After a first half that saw them shoot an uncharacteristically low .226 from the field, the William Woods University women's basketball team held Lindenwood University-Belleville scoreless for 13:22 to pull away to a 49-38 win on Saturday afternoon.
Sharron Andrews (Oakland/Hayward, Calif.) led the Owls with 14 points on the night.
WWU jumped out to a 6-2 lead, but the cushion evaporated just as quickly as the Lynx went on an 8-0 run to lead 11-6 with 13:41 to go in the half.
The Owls were able to tie it up and take the lead briefly, but a three-point basket by Chanese Washington with 28 seconds on the clock sent WWU into the break down 24-21.
Dan Chapla's squad connected on just one attempt from 3-pt range in the first stanza.
A quick start to the second half, however, would be all the Owls needed, as they scored on three of their first four possessions and ran off 16 unanswered points to hold a 37-24 lead with 11:10 to go.
Both teams hit a cold spell - with Megan Clark eventually finding the bucket for LUB - but the damage was already done. The Owls were able to safely hold off the challenge.
The Owls move to 7-2 on the year, with Andrews's 14 leading all scorers in the contest.
Ashlee Taylor (Dexter, Mo.) posted a game-high 10 rebounds for WWU. Three players finished in double figures for Lindenwood-Belleville, with Ashley Will's 13 points leading the way.
William Woods is off for finals week, and will hit the road for a pair of games in the Mid America Nazarene Classic. They will open with Lindenwood University at 7 p.m. on Friday, December 16.
