The William Woods University volleyball team dropped an American Midwest Conference match Wednesday night in Anderson Arena.  The Owls lost 3-0 to 20th-ranked Missouri Baptist University.

The Spartans defeated the Owls 25-23, 25-22 and 25-15.  The Owls and Spartans gave a packed Anderson Arena a great effort Wednesday night.  William Woods took a 21-18 lead in the opening set on a kill from Melanie Bonk (Hampshire, Ill.).  The Spartans rallied for six unanswered points to take a 24-21 lead.  The Owls closed the gap to one point on a solo block from Lauren Fleming (Granbury, Texas).  MBU answered with a kill from Jessica Bowman to take the opener.

Alicia Green (Midlothian, Texas) recorded a kill in the second set to tie the match at 14.  The Spartans regained the lead and were able to maintain a two-point advantage through much of the second set.  Bailey Peterson (Cedarburg, Wis.) found the space between two defenders late to close the gap to 22-24.  Megan Moore followed with a kill for Missouri Baptist to end another WWU rally.

The Owls trailed 10-11 in the third set before MBU rallied for nine of the next 11 points.  William Woods was unable to make-up the deficit and lost the final set 25-15.

Amanda Henley (Jefferson City, Mo.) led the Owls with 12 digs.  She eclipsed the 1000 career dig mark in the loss.  She is now 48 digs away from moving into fifth place all-time in the WWU record book.

Fleming led the Owls with five kills.  Green and Kristen Bauer (Saint Charles, Mo.) each had four kills in the loss.  Green added two blocks for William Woods.  Peterson led the WWU offense with 17 assists on the night.

Missouri Baptist improves to 15-1 on the season and 5-0 in the AMC.  The Spartans only loss this year came at the hands of top-ranked University of Texas-Brownsville.

William Woods falls to 7-9 overall and 3-2 in league play.  They return to action September 27.  The Owls travel to AMC rival Park University.  First-serve is scheduled for 7 pm in Parkville, Mo.
