Coming off a historic win at Columbia on Thursday night, the William Woods University women's basketball team will look to extend its current winning streak to three games against Williams Baptist on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Eagles are currently sitting in second place in the AMC by virtue of having one extra game in the books, as WBC took on Park in back-to-back contests to open the conference slate.
Quick Look - William Woods
Currently ranked #25 in the NAIA Division I Coaches Poll, WWU has been solid through three conference games.
Sharron Andrews and
Megan Aubuchon have shared the bulk of the offensive load, with matching 14.7 pts/gm averages, with
Ashlee Taylor adding 9.0 pts/gm. Andrews has been the team's leading rebounder in conference action, pulling down 7.7 per game with Aubuchon grabbing 6.7 and
Miranda Loesch nabbing 4.7. Uncharacteristically, the Owls find themselves at a 34.3-37.0 disadvantage on the glass in conference play - WWU owns a 41.1-38.6 edge overall - but the tradeoff has been the result of better shooting from the Owls. In AMC play, William Woods has hit at a .414 pace from the floor and a .417 clip from distance, compared to .379 and .295 marks respectively through 17 games so far.
Looking at the season as a whole, Andrews is still the leading scorer for WWU, with a pace of 14.1 pts/gm, while Aubuchon still remains in double digits at 11.1 per contest. Aubuchon has grabbed a slightly better 8.1 reb/gm overall, with Andrews's average dipping to 6.6 per game.
The Owls defensive commitment has certainly made an impression on the season, as WWU ranks 21st in the country in both scoring defense and shooting defense, allowing just 57.8 pts/gm and a .360 shooting pace to its opponents through 17 games. The Owls also hold top 50 ranks in blocks (30th-3.3/gm; 31st-56), rebounds (37th-41.1/gm), rebounding margin (32nd-+4.059), rebounds allowed (40th-37.0) and FT percentage (41st-.679).
Individually, Andrews ranks 21st in steals per game (2.824) and 31st in FG percentage (.473). Aubuchon is also ranked nationally, holding down the 42nd spot in defensive rebounds per game with 5.4.
