#23 Owls Return Home To Face College Of The Ozarks

The no. 23-ranked William Woods University women's basketball team returns to action after a seven-day hiatus as they host NAIA Division II opponent College of the Ozarks on Tuesday night. Tipoff for the game, presented by Columbia Orthopaedic Group, is set for 7 p.m.

The Matchup
The Owls come into Tuesday's matchup sporting a 4-1 overall record. They are averaging 66.2 points per game while allowing only 54.6 points per contest.

William Woods features a balanced scoring attack with three players averaging double figures. Junior Priscila Santos leads the group at 11.6 points per game, while junior Stephanie Copelin ranks second on the team with 10.4 points per contest. Senior Olivia Storjohann rounds out the trio of double-digit scorers chipping in 10.2 points per game.

College of the Ozarks comes into Anderson Arena ranked no. 3 in the NAIA Division II Coaches Poll. The Lady Bobcats are a perfect 7-0 on the season.

Ozarks features a potent offense averaging 84.3 points per contest, while only giving up 58.4 points per game.

Senior Morgan Smith leads NAIA Division II in scoring with 26.3 points per game.

Last Time Out
William Woods suffered its first loss of the 2012-13 campaign last Tuesday, falling on the road at Central Methodist University, 61-60.

Junior Stephanie Copelin tied her career high with 15 points. The 5-11 forward set the mark earlier this season in WWU's 75-49 victory over Missouri Valley College.

Junior Katie Scherder (14 points) and freshman Julia Wells (13 points) each set new career highs during the defeat.

Welcome Back
Tuesday will be the first game played at Anderson Arena for the Owls in two weeks. The Owls dominated no. 20 Avila University in a 63-49 win on Nov. 13. Junior Priscila Santos led all scorers with 14 points in the victory.

A Bittersweet Night
Despite the loss at Central Methodist University, William Woods had three players either match or set new career scoring highs. Junior forward Stephanie Copelin tied her career high with 15 points, while junior guard Katie Scherder (14 points) and freshman guard Julia Wells (13 points) each set new marks.
 
Home Court Advantage
The Owls are riding a modest six-game home winning streak which dates back to the 2011-12 season. The last home setback for William Woods came on Feb. 11, 2012 when Columbia College knocked off the Owls 76-66.

Hitting the Boards
Early in the season the Owls have four players averaging over five rebounds a game. Juniors Priscila Santos and Stephanie Copelin are tied for the team lead with 6.2 caroms per game. Senior Olivia Storjohann has averaged 6.0 rebounds/game and freshman Julia Wells has gathered 5.4 boards per game.

Despite not starting a game yet in the 2012-13 season, junior Priscila Santos leads the team with 11.6 points per game and is tied for the team lead in rebounds with 6.2 per game.

Shooting At The Line
Early in the season William Woods has been winning the battle at the charity stripe. The Owls rank 11th in the nation in free throw percentage at .737. Junior Priscila Santos ranks 45th nationally at the charity stripe with a .778 mark.

Distributing With Care
The Owls rank 13th in the NAIA in assist/turnover ratio at 1.014. Freshman Julia Wells ranks 46th in the nation with a 2.00 assist/turnover ratio.

Hard To Score On
William Wood ranks 18th in the nation in defensive field goal percentage, holding teams to an average of .342 from the floor.

Points have been hard for the opposition to come by against WWU as the Owls have given up 54.6 points per game which ranks 23rd in the nation.
