CANTON, Mo. -- The William Woods University men's soccer team stretched its winning streak to three games on Saturday with a 2-1 win over Culver-Stockton College.
Marcelo Carreiro (Curtiba, Brazil) and
Luca Stroeter (Sao Paulo, Brazil) tallied for the Owls in the win.
The Owls opened the scoring very early, with Carreiro notching his sixth goal of the season in the second minute.
Sebastian Burich (Santiago, Chile) picked up the assist, his second of the season.
After taking a 1-0 lead into the half, William Woods doubled its lead in the 63rd minute off the foot of Stroeter. Burich picked up his second assist of the match as well.
The Wildcats were able to cut the lead in half in the 74th minute, as Alex Williams struck, but the Owls held on for the win.
Dillon Snyder (Boise, Idaho) recorded five saves in the match, with the Owls defensive unit helping out in the second half by allowing just two shots on goal for C-SC.
WWU posted a 11-6 edge in shots on goal in the match, moving to 4-3 on the year. The Owls are back in action on Tuesday evening as they head to St. Louis, Mo., to take on Webster University. Kickoff for the match is set for 7 p.m.
