Owls Drop Both Matches Of Tuesday's Tri-Match

Becker collected a combined 27 kills on Tuesday.

FULTON, Mo. -- The William Woods University volleyball team suffered a pair of straight set losses on Tuesday to College of the Ozarks and no. 22 Columbia College.

William Woods (8-13) ran into a strong pair of defensive teams, especially at the net, as the Owls were blocked 32 times in six sets on the night. No. 22 Columbia College (12-4) was particularly tough on WWU as they collected 18 blocks in their straight set victory.

The losses extends the Owls losing streak to four games, as they end their four-game home stand winless.

The Owls dropped the first match of the day to College of the Ozarks (14-11) 3-0 (22-25, 18-25, 18-25). The Lady Bobcats were able to avenge a loss earlier this season to William Woods, as they defeated WWU in straight sets on its home court.

Outside hitters Kristen Bauer and Emily Becker were able to extend their double-digit kill streak to eight matches, as the Belleville, Ill., native collected a match-high 13 kills, and the junior Bauer collected 12 on the afternoon.

The Lady Bobcat defense was tough on the duo, as they both posted a hitting percentage under .200. Becker collected a .186 success rate on the afternoon, while College of the Ozarks held Bauer in check with a .138 hitting percentage.

For the Owls were outperformed in the dig category, as Ozarks collected 54 digs to William Woods 52.

Abbie O'Mara led the team with a match-high 17 digs, while sophomore McKenna Hisel also posted double-digit digs with 10.

In the nights final match, the Owls fell to American Midwest Conference rival Columbia College 3-0 (19-25, 22-25, 12-25), though the match did not reflect on either on the team's AMC records.

The Lady Cougars used their height to their advantage in this match, as 6-3 Trinity Ojo and 6-6 Alanie Rosario collected a combined 15 of the Lady Cougars 18 blocks.

Columbia College also got a strong performance from Carol Berger, who the Lady Cougars depended on all night when they need a clutch point.

 The 6-4 Brazilian native tied for a match-high 14 kills on the night. It was a season-high mark for Berger, who collected only four double-digit kill matches prior to Tuesday's affair.

Emily Becker gave the Owls another strong performance, as she tied Berger's 14 kills in the nightcap. The sophomore extended her double-digit kill streak to nine matches, and posted a .273 hitting percentage on the night. She was the only Owl to collect double-digits in kills on the night.

Abbie O'Mara posted 16 digs on the night, and for the second straight match the Owls, who came into the match ranked third in the NAIA in digs, was outperformed in that category, as Columbia College collected 53 digs, to William Woods' 45.

Prior to the William Woods/Columbia College match up, the Lady Cougars were able to win a five-set thriller over College of the Ozarks. Columbia was able to battle from a two-set deficit, as they took the match 3-2 (22-25, 22-25, 25-18, 25-22, 15-6).

Things will get a little tougher on William Woods this weekend, as they travel to no. 5 MidAmerica Nazarene on Friday. MNU is 16-1 on the year, with its lone loss coming against no. 7 Midland University. First serve for this match is set for 7 p.m.
